Project Summary
This project will directly support 200 girls and boys with disabilities across eight primary schools from Kasulu district of Kigoma region, Tanzania, to access and participate in primary and pre-primary education on an equal basis to their peers. This will be achieved through the collaboration of a wide range of stakeholders, including Organizations of People with Disabilities (OPDs), parents, communities, teachers, and Ward, District, Regional and National Government Officials. The disability inclusion component will address enrolment, teacher skills and behavior change and how to arrange support needed by schools and related systems to ensure sustainable systems improvement. The role of OPDs in ensuring accountability and sustainability will also be introduced.

How it increases happiness
Most of the children with disabilities are left behind on access to quality education in Tanzania.
The project will bring happiness into the lives of the children with disabilities themselves, their families and the surrounding communities, as these marginalized group will now have a hope on its future life self-sustaining and reduce family/community dependency after acquiring quality and inclusive education as well as changing community's altitudes towards disability to create a future inclusive community.
Steps to complete the task
The following activities will be undertaken to ensure the project shows the expected results.
1. OPDs and key stakeholders conduct awareness raising to the community and among religious leaders, school management committee, traditional authorities and famous people on inclusive education, at District and Ward levels.
2. Conduct training of multidisciplinary team, identification team and OPDs on screening, identification and assessment of CWDs.
3. Conduct screening, identification and assessment of CWDs using multidisciplinary team including OPDs.
4. Support to families with CWDs on costs for assistive devices.
5. Develop guidelines on how to make mainstream school clubs more disability inclusive and gender sensitive.
6. Conduct teachers training on screening and Identification, Inclusive education (IE) pedagogy, UDL, NSIE, School-based Inclusion Teams and safeguarding issues.
7. Develop a Parent Teacher Partnership (PTP) framework and guidelines for inclusion and strengthen, with aspects of the parent support group model and guidelines on how to make mainstream school clubs more disability inclusive and gender sensitive.
8. Training of school Management Committees (SMCs) and rollout of school accessibility audit and inclusive PTP guidelines in schools.
9. Facilitate an active disability inclusive committee at wards and district level that is gender and youth sensitive.
10. OPDs and other stakeholders share evidence and best practice to advocate and influence the implementation of the ESDP and NSIE to the regional/national government and other large-scale education programmes, through dissemination of a learning product.
