Hello! My name is Paulina Katins and I am currently staying in a small village in Nepal, a few hours by bus from Kathmandu. During my stay, I got the opportunity to join the local people in their daily lives and to get an idea about the struggles they are facing. One big part of that is access to nutritious, healthy meals. Especially for children the unavailability of those has a big impact. It is essential for their development and also influences their work in school and overall wellbeing.
In rural areas of Nepal, many people are facing poverty while big families are very common. It is therefore not rare that children may receive only two (or even less) simple meals in their households.
Yes To Change Nepal is the organization that I am currently working with. They are working against the mentioned issues and are therefore starting a new campaign to expand their supply of meals for local schools.
How it increases happiness
At the moment, Yes To Change already works with two schools where their commitment to providing meals over the last few years has shown the importance of their work. Going to school is already something that most children here look forward to and it can be seen that the availability of a lunch meal has only added to that. Of many children, it is their favorite part of the day. It does not only give the children the energy to go through the day and to focus in class, but it also gives them a feeling of being cared for.
