The Pre-school, established at the outset of 2018, was born from the necessity to address the challenges faced by vulnerable families with young children. These families often had to leave their children unattended while they attended to daily duties, which posed significant risks in the precarious environment of Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya.
In response, we have created a multifaceted “community hub” that serves a range of critical functions:
Providing early childhood education aligned with the Kenyan National curriculum.
Offering essential daily meals for young children.
Furnishing a secure and nurturing environment for the little ones.
Creating employment opportunities for staff.
Teaching vital life skills (e.g., COVID safety and gardening) that can be applied at home and shared with families
The Tahirih Pre-school program is our flagship initiative, and it is designed to provide a nurturing and stimulating environment for young children. We provide high-quality early childhood education while helping them to develop their social, emotional, and academic skills.
The quality education program aims to provide all children, regardless of their socio-economic background, with access to quality education that promotes their intellectual, social, and emotional development.
How it increases happiness
The pre-school program provides a safe and stimulating environment for children to learn and play. We have a team of experienced teachers who are trained in early childhood education and care, and they work closely with the children to ensure that they receive the support and guidance they need to thrive. Our quality education program is committed to promoting sustainability and ensuring that our impact is long-lasting and meaningful.
We believe that our program has the potential to make a significant impact on improving the quality of early childhood education in Kakuma Refugee Camp, Turkana Kenya and promoting family literacy and lifelong learning.
